Skipper Peter Mylchreest was beaten in the final by Ritchie Waterhouse of Queen of Martyrs in the First Round of the individuals tournament at the Oak Tree.
The Ship and Mitre B secretary was given an early boost after his first opponent, Alison Watts from the Melbourne, hadn’t turned up, giving him a bye into the next round.
He was then taking on Mick Doonan, also of Queen of Martyrs, he beat him 2-0 despite playing far from his best.
He was speechless after the game saying: “I cannot believe I won that. I really shouldn’t have won that.” Doonan missed several darts at double in both legs and it really came back to hurt him.
It was then down to the final as he came up against Richie Waterhouse in an enthralling encounter. The first leg could have gone either way and Mylchreest had two darts at tops to win it, but he couldn’t take them, and in the second, Waterhouse was given too much of a head start.
