Ship and Mitre B’s losing run continues after they fell to a 7-2 defeat at the league’s second placed club Gateway.
The rout started when Ged Lofthouse lost in 17 darts against Mark Brooks. Brooks took out 50 on D16.
Hywel Jones then had a bad day at the office as he failed to get his starting double, allowing Jimmy Hogan to go out in 17 darts in again under minimal pressure.
The first of two 12 dart legs was hit in the next game as Steve Magee checked out 125 on the bull with skipper Peter Mylchreest waiting on 68.
The rout had to stop and Steve Dobby was able to stem that tide, despite struggling to take out 32, he needed seven darts to take it and with Dave White Jr struggling on doubles himself, Dobby took his opportunity to reduce the deficit.
The reprieve was short lived however as Tommy Westwell was eventually able to defeat Paul Kelleher. Westwell took the game on D2 after previously having missed five darts at a double.
The second 12 dart leg then came out of nowhere as Chris Ruddy pulled one out of the bag, checking out 76 to keep Mitre in the game. Mick Brooks had no chance for Gateway.
Ted Walpole then sealed the game for Gateway after Mike Coates became the second Mitre player who failed to get his starting double. After missing eight darts at a double himself, Walpole was able to seal the game on D9.
The final game of the night saw Dave White Senior beat Steven Hughes, who struggled to get off. White was able to seal the game relatively unopposed as he went out in the madhouse, D1.
As Mitre didn’t have enough players, they forfeited the final game, confirming a heavy defeat for them.
There will now be a two week break in the league to make way for different tournaments. Next week will see Lofthouse and Mylchreest represent the Mitre in the pairs tournament, they will be playing at the Ship and Mitre next Monday night.
