Ship and Mitre B fell to their eighth straight league defeat after a6-3 defeat against Newstead A.
The Smithdown Road pub went into the game off the back of a 6-3 defeat at home to Gateway.
It was a good start however for Mitre after Steve Dobby took advantage of Dave Dyer’s many missed darts at his finishing double.
But the lead was not to last long as Barry Dodson produced some consistent heavy scoring whilst Hywel Jones took 10 darts to start the game.
Paul Rush then gave the Newstead the lead after beating John Gibbons, who missed 11 darts at a double. Rush was able to punish him with his fourth dart at D10.
Then some smashing darts from Phil Riley won his game against Chris Ruddy- he threw an 18 dart leg, the best of the night.
Ged Lofthouse was able to keep the game alive by beating Brian White. Like his teammates, Lofthouse had had double trouble but he was able to take the game with his 13th dart at a double in the game.
Newstead then went to match point after Tommy Murphy was able to produce the heavy scoring of his teammates and he only needed one dart at tops to defeat Paul Kelleher.
Lee Caldwell then secured the victory for his side with victory over Rob Warbrick, who was surprisingly off that night. Although Caldwell did need seven darts to start and six darts to finish, he was able to finish the game.
Dave Roberts was then able to extend the lead with some stunning darts to beat the captain Peter Mylchreest. He had some trouble finishing, but his power scoring and set up play got him into a great position.
The last game was a surprise for Mitre as Jimmy Miello, a local who was at the pub supporting the team, not only stepped up for the final game, but was victorious against Alf Humphreys. Despite messing up a shot at tops, he was able to take the game to restore a bit of pride.
Ship and Mitre B are now seven league games without a win, they haven’t won since 22 August when they won away to Liver Vaults.
They are back in league action next Monday when they travel to the Gateway Hotel in Bootle.
